Abstract

Church leaders today have a responsibility to guard the congregation they lead so that they do not get caught up in the spread of this false teaching. One form of action from this responsibility is that the church can choose and appoint local church leaders who have good spiritual qualities. The presence of qualified leaders will be able to help the congregation be protected from the massive influence of the spread of false teachings. The pastoral letter I Timothy 3:1-13 contains the appointment of church leaders with certain qualifications or criteria. The background of the writing of the pastoral letter can be the basis for guidelines for appointing church leaders in the context of facing the development of false teachings not only in the past but also in the present.
